Game Dev and one post per year

“Hey this is not a Game Dev blog?”. I know, I know… i’m lazy. But this post took me a year.

Many, many, many stuff happened. In random order.

After the Global game jam I met others game developers and little studios from Turin. It was a very important experience because we met and we understand that we can create something stronger and better together than alone. So it starts jumping in our mind an idea. How do we can change the Game development industries in Italy? We, italians, consume a lot of videogame. We are one of the core market, but we produce few games here in Italy. From the last AESVI census about employs or professional in the game industries in Italy, we are only 700. And many of them are lonely developer as me.

We need to change many things in Italy, like tax burden, poor welfare, no jobs. One of the fast world growing industries are the game industries, but do a console quality game require skills and professionals.

Global Game Jam 2014 – Post mortem

The last week end I participated to the first Turin Global Game Jam. Great experience, great fun and last but not least great project!

We won the “Best game” for the Turin site with Come to see my house . Awesome!

Unity Serialization… behind the mistery of ScriptableObject

Unity serialization is a powerful feature but a little bit hard to master. Working on my AudioLogic plugin (soon on the AssetStore) I start fighting against the serialization in Unity. I need it because when you modify your audio library from the custom window you will expect that after re-open unity or after hit play your changes are still there and not vanished as a dust in the air… Soooo, I started toying around serialization stuff in Unity.

This will be more a memorandum for me to remember what I must do and what NOT to serialize a complex structure correctly (like MultiList, or multi array).

2013 Updates

Long time ago there was a Unity3d Dev Blog…

Ehm… so many things are changed that I’ve forgotten to update the blog since last year.

Well I would not write a romance like post so I will go very fast telling that since the last Christmas I changed my job. Here in Italy was and is a very hard time and the studio which I was working for close in January.

So I started to believe that the only way was going 100% indie, but the reality of one-man game studio is really really really hard.

In April I was thinking to give up the indie route, when I received an email from a UK studio, called RedFrog, that was interested in a collaboration. After watching some of my works in May we start the collaboration. Here some of the projects I worked for :

Working on IZ Augmented Xmas!

Hello everybody,

After few weeks of work my 3d room planner demo made in Unity is ready.

3D Planner is the perfect solution for everyone who needs to improve the interaction with his customer and busting his sell in a new way. Let your customers play with your catalog and let them choose which is the best choice for their home.

Unity3d + OpenCV – Contours finding using Background removal

Torino (Italia)

I continued my exploration on mixing OpenCV and Unity. What i want to achieve was some interesting effects usable in some kind of advertising installation. As creative developer I want to explore new way  and new possibilities for my client, with cheap production and hardware costs. In this demo I used just a simple webcam to achieve a contours finding using background removal.
